Detective Pikachu released in theatres in US theatres yesterday.
Detective Pikachu will tell the story of Tim Goodman teaming up with a Pikachu, who he's mysteriously able to understand, in order to figure out what happened to his missing father and, in turn, save the world!
The highly-anticipated, live-action Pokemon film impressively made $5.7 million at the box office (from its Thurday opening alone). Ahead of its release, the film had ticket sales comparable to that of, fellow Warner Bros. movie,
Shazam! and preview screening ticket sales similar to that of
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
On Friday, the film is projected to make $20 million at the box office.
Deadline reports that it will beat, Marvel Studios' latest film,
Avengers: Endgame on that specific day. It won't keep the lead however as Avengers: Endgame will take the weekend, according to projections, making $70 million, with Detective Pikachu making only bring in $53 million. Here's an excerpt from Deadline's recent report:

Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.
Detective Pikachu is set to arrive in theatres on May 10th, 2019.
