A few months ago, Square Enix officially announced that they were working on a Dragon Quest V animated movie. Other than the announcement itself, we didn't really get much information on the project, however.

Today, Square Enix has treated us to a first trailer for the Dragon Quest V animated movie, giving us our first look at the CG charcters and their new designs. Sadly, the movie isn't inspired by Akira Toriyma's iconic character designs, but the movie still looks like a proper adaptation.

With the announcement, Square Enix also reveals that Dragon Quest V will be releasing in Japan on the 2nd of August, but we still don't have an official release date for Western countries so we'll have to keep waiting for them to officially announe if the movie will be hitting theaters outside of Japan this year.
