Back in August rumours started doing the rounds, which suggested that Disney was planning on re-releasing the classic Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis versions of both
Aladdin and
The Lion King; not a day later, and Disney officially confirmed these rumours.
This re-release is part of a new series that Disney itself calls
Disney Classic Games, with
Aladdin and
The Lion King being the first two titles to be bundled together; bringing with it several versions of the games, and including a lot of extra content not present in the originally released titles.
Players should expect to find, in this collection, the Sega Genesis and Sega Mega Drive(Japanese) versions of
Aladdin, as well as the Game Boy and Game Boy Colour's colourised versions; while
The Lion King is including the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and Japanese Mega Drive versions of the game, as well as both the original and Game Boy Colour versions.
It is worth mentioning that there were two versions of
Aladdin — one released for the Super Nintendo and the other for the Sega Genesis — but this collection is not including the Capcom-developed version of
Aladdin for the Super Nintendo; while the news is disappointing, most still agree that the better out of the two versions is the one released for the Sega Genesis.
As
Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King becomes available today for home consoles, developer Nighthawk Interctive has shared a launch trailer for the collection — although the trailer serves as a friendly reminder, given that it is the exact same trailer they released when they officially announced the game.
