Fans have been wondering if classic Sonic the Hedgehog baddie Doctor Robotnik, a.k.a. Dr. Eggman, would be a part of Paramount Pictures' upcoming live-action/CGI adaptation of the Sega video game, and Deadline now reports that none other than Jim Carrey (Batman Forever, Kick-Ass 2) will play the villain.

Carrey is still said to be in negotiations for the role, but by all accounts it's (pretty much) a done deal.

The versatile actor will join James Marsden and Tika Sumpter in upcoming Sonic movie, which is directed by Jeff Fowler.
