Allison Shroeder, the Oscar-nominated writer known for her work on Hidden Figures and Christopher Robin, as well as the yet to be released
Frozen 2, has joined Warner Bros.' upcoming movie adaptation of
Minecraft (via
Toonado).
Now the bestselling game of all-time, Microsoft and Mojang have been trying to take advantage of the game's popularity for quite some time - with attempts at movie and TV adaptations dating back to 2012. The current iteration of the
Minecraft movie is in the works at Warner Bros. as the studio acquired the rights to it back in 2014.
This version of the film has suffered multiple setbacks and rewrites. Currently, Peter Sollet (
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) is on board to helm the project after multiple other directors dropped out. It's said that the film will release on March 4th, 2022 and tell the story of a young girl and her friends as they set out to save the Overworld from the malevolent Ender Dragon.
The Minecraft movie is set to release on March 4th, 2022.
