Detective Pikachu released a couple of weeks ago and served as the beginning of Legendary's live-action Pokémon cinematic universe. The film stars Justice Smith and Ryan Reynolds as Tim Goodman and Detective Pikachu respectively. Together, the pair must figure out what happened to the former's missing father and the latter's missing partner.

Despite being a seemingly minor story in the grand scheme of the Pokémon universe, it features a pretty major Pokémon creature. The fan-favourite, all-knowing, legendary Pokémon of Mewtwo plays a massive role in the first instalment in the live-action Pokémon cinematic universe.

One of the screenwriters of Detective Pikachu recently featured on the podcast by the name of "A Wild Podcast Has Appeared," (via Comicbook.com) wherein he discussed writing dialogue for an omniscient character of such a power level. Here's what he had to say:

Well, I think that Mewtwo is such an interesting and complicated character that we wanted to capture an etherealness to that, to his voice and to its point of view. This is a Pokemon that has more knowledge than maybe almost anything else on the planet. It's just experienced a lot. It's power is off the chart.

So we felt like there was, I don't want to say it's an attachment, but there is sort of like a prescience of understanding that Mewtwo possesses and we felt like when we were writing Mewtwo's dialogue that had to be present in his dialogue, that Mewtwo has seen the past and the present and the future, that sort of jumble and understands more than our characters do. It has the ability to do things our characters can't. So that was sort of the thought process when we were writing Mewtwo.

Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.
