When a
Detective Pikachu movie was revealed to be in the works back in 2016, we really didn't have any idea of what the project would end up looking once it was finished, especially since this would be the very first live action Pokémon movie ever made.
Detective Pikachu would be adapting the story from the Nintendo 3DS game of the same name, and would be distributed by Warner Bros. and Legendary; with Rob Letterman("
Goosebumbs", "
Monsters Vs. Aliens") as the director for the ambitious project.
Then came Ryan Reynolds, who was cast as
Detective Pikachu's fan-favourite Pokémon Pikachu in December of 2017, obviously providing the voice for the character—who in the game actually utters words rather than repeating his own name over and over like most Pokémon do.
Recently,
Detective Pikachu star Ryan Reynolds released a new behind-the-scenes photo of him with what he calls Pika-Dots, which are used to detect movement when doing motion capture work for CGI characters; finally confirming that the character is not only being voiced by him but also played by him, at least his facial movements.
Take a look:
The first-ever live-action Pokémon movie, “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular character in the first-ever live-action movie based on the iconic face of the global Pokémon brand—one of the world’s most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and most successful media franchises of all time.
Detective Pikachu will release in theatres on the 10th of May in 2019.
