Zachary Levi is best known for playing the superhero role of
Shazam! in the film of the same name which released earlier this year. However, the actor recently discussed what video game character he would like to play in a movie adaptation. Asked by a fan what video game franchise he would like to lead, during a panel at CCXP Cologne (via
Comicbook.com), Levi was dead set on his answer.
Sony are currently working on a live-action movie based on the
Uncharted video games. Tom Holland (
Spider-Man: Far From Home) is set to star as the iconic character of Nathan Drake. Levi is well aware of this, but still made it clear that Nathan Drake would be a dream role. While he wished Holland the best of luck, should the currently in-development adaptation fall through, Levi is raring to go.
Levi explained that he saw massive potential in the first Uncharted video game, so much so that he called up Naughty Dog to ask about the rights to a movie adaptation.
I played the first Uncharted when it first came out, I was like, ‘That dude’s the new Indiana Jones, I want to be the new Indiana Jones, I’m finding out where the movie rights are.' And I called Naughty Dog, and I got on the phone with whoever, I was like, ‘Hi, you don’t know me, I’m an actor in Los Angeles, who has the film rights to your video game?’ And they were like, ‘Oh no, they’ve already been bought off, it was Avi Arad,’ and the whole deal. But 100 percent, that is such a fun franchise, I hope they make that, I still hope they make that. Apparently Tom Holland is attached to be Nathan Drake, a young version of Nathan Drake, he’s a very talented and upstanding gentleman, so I wish him nothing but luck. But if that doesn’t work out, I would love to be Nathan Drake.
Failing that, Levi made it clear that he's a big fan of Naughty Dog as he also brought up the role of Joel from The Last of Us. "It’s a great role. But also The Last of Us, I mean, they’re gonna turn that into a movie too, and that would be an amazing role."
