The upcoming, live-action
Sonic the Hedgehog movie will finally grace theatre screens in just over a month's time. This is after a long and rocky production which officially began all the way back in 2013. The project was notably set back in 2018 after fan backlash prompted Paramount Pictures to delay it in order to rework the titular character's design.
Recently, a storyboard artist who worked on the
Sonic the Hedgehog film shared some of their work. Heiko von Drengenberg released some sketches of scenes that we've seen in trailers. It's unclear exactly when Drengenberg created the pieces but they're certainly more reminiscent of the film's former self than its current self — that is to say; Sonic looks more creepy than cute.
"Did I mention I had a blast working on this? Can't wait for February," Drengenberg admitted his anticipation of the video game movie's theatrical release.
"This was a really fun project. Looking forward to what 2020 brings," the artist continued. Check out the storyboards below (via

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theatres on February 14th, 2020.
