Sonic the Hedgehog may have arrived in theatres on February 14th for most of the world but it wasn't set to hit the big screen in Japan until March 27th. However, that's no longer the case. Due to the increasing concern to do with the widespread outbreak of COVID-19 (A.K.A. the Coronavirus) the Japanese release of
Sonic the Hedgehog has been delayed.
Tails Channel reports that the live-action
Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been postponed indefinitely due to the concerning outbreak. This means that a new release date will eventually be announced but it's currently unknown.
The official Japanese account for the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie (there titled;
Sonic the Movie) shared a statement regarding their decision to indefinitely delay the release — you can check that out below (via

"We have decided to postpone the release date of "Sonic the Movie", which was scheduled to be released on March 27 (Fri). We sincerely apologize to those who are looking forward to it. The release schedule will be announced as soon as it is determined."
Similarly, the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie was indefinitely postponed in China due to Coronavirus concerns. In that region, it would have arrived in theatres on February 28th. It's still yet to arrive in theatres.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
