Earlier this morning, Paramount Pictures released a trailer for the
Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie; with a brand-new design for Sonic. The reason behind the redesign was due to the backlash the first trailer got, which featured a Sonic that looked absolutely nothing like his video game counterpart.
As it turns out, the man in charge of the character's redesign is none other than Tyson Hesse, who many may remember as the director of the
Sonic Mania Adventures mini series that Sega released, completely for free on their YouTube channel, ahead of
Sonic Mania Plus' launch.
The
Sonic Mania Adventures miniseries only consisted of 5 episodes plus a Christmas special, and fans loved every minute of it; in spite of the whole season being less than 20 minutes long in total.
Hesse revealed this information on his personal Twitter account, saying that it was an honour working with
Sonic the Hedgehog movie Director Jeff Fowler, and the modelers, riggers, and texture/fur artists and animators; sharing a phenomenal illustration with the redesigned Sonic.
Take a look:
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog is spin-dashing into theatres on the 14th of February in 2020.
