For the first time in the franchise's history, Sonic the Hedgehog will be venturing onto the big screen. This November, Ben Schwartz will be voicing the titular speedster alongside, the film's human leads, James Marsden and Jim Carrey - the latter of which will be playing the villainous Dr. Robotnik. Marsden will be playing, Tom Wachowski, a cop who Sonic crosses paths with and eventually teams up with to prevent the end of the world!
Other than that information, we don't know too much about Tom or Sonic's characters, nor their relationship - nor much to do with the live-action film at all. Thankfully, following some footage from the film being shown off at CinemaCon,
Comicbook.com spoke with Marsden who divulged some tidbits in regards to his character's relationship with the iconic, blue speedster. At the same time, Marsden also revealed the role of his co-star Tika Sumpter - that of Tom Wachowski's wife.
So Tom's a, he's a small town cop and he's trying to figure his life out and what his next step is. And he's married to Tika Sumter's character and they're trying to figure out the next step in their lives and in comes this character that is from another world and they become friends and they...how do I do this without spoiling it...go on a little journey together and some adventures and they hopefully get their answers to life together.
The other day, we were made privy to just how Sonic and Tom come into contact - thanks to a description of the afformentioned CinemaCon footage.
"Sonic races past Tom Wachowski at 760 mph according to a radar gun. He zips down streets and through woods. The Paramount logo appears and is surrounded by gold rings. He runs so fast at one point that there’s an explosion. Tom finds him, gets startled, and sends a tranquilizer dart into his leg." For more on that, click

Sonic the Hedgehog will be racing into theatres on November 8th, 2019.
