Sonic the Hedgehog only arrived in theatres in February but is already available digitally — find out more on that here. Based on the popular video game series of the same name; Ben Schwartz stars as the voice of the titular speedster alongside Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski.
The movie more or less serves as an origin story for the blue blur — something that he has essentially gone without until now. What with the movie now available at various digital storefronts, Paramount Pictures has released the first eight minutes of the movie online (via FandangoNOW Extras). Anybody can watch the movie's opening, totally for free.
Sonic the Hedgehog begins with the titular character being chased by Dr. Robotnik. However, the movie quickly jumps back in time to Sonic's childhood. He lives on an island that fans of the franchise will no doubt recognise — it's Green Hill Zone — with a motherly figure whose name is Longclaw. However, he soons finds himself living alone on modern day Earth.
Last week, Paramount Pictures shared an alternate version of the movie's opening which features the titular speedster with his outdated, less appealing look. Interestingly, it's quite significantly different to the opening that made it into the final cut — which you can check out below.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog is now available digitally — Blu-ray and Ultra 4K HD release set for May 19th, 2020.
