While
The Angry Birds Movie 2 has done well critically —
becoming the highest-rated video game movie of all time — how has it fared at the box office? Well, a recent report by
Deadline had revealed exactly that.
On Tuesday night,
The Angry Birds Movie 2 debuted in theatres and reportedly managed to bring in $2.6 million. That's a pretty decent amount for a children's movie based on a video game to make in just one night.
However, it was fifth overall for Tuesday night — behind the likes of
Hobbs & Shaw and
The Lion King which made $4.3 million and $4.1 million respectively.
The aforementioned report speculates that
The Angry Birds Movie 2 will make $16 million before the end of the week. Again, that's a pretty solid score but not necessarily impressive. Given that the animated sequel was cheaply made with on $65 million, it should have no trouble making its money back — if it does as well as it's expected to.
The flightless angry birds and the scheming green piggies take their beef to the next level in The Angry Birds Movie 2! When a new threat emerges that puts both Bird and Pig Island in danger, Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride), and Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) recruit Chuck’s sister Silver (Rachel Bloom) and team up with pigs Leonard (Bill Hader), his assistant Courtney (Awkwafina), and techpig Garry (Sterling K. Brown) to forge an unsteady truce and form an unlikely superteam to save their homes.
The Angry Birds Movie 2 is set to arrive in theatres on August 2nd, 2019.
