Alicia Vikander graced cinema screens as Lara Croft in March of last year when
Tomb Raider released. The film didn't prove to be a hit with critics but did make somewhat of a profit for MGM — its budget was $94 million and it made $274 million in total.
According to a new report by
Deadline, a sequel to this film is in the works with Vikander to reprise the titular role. Ben Wheatley is attached to direct. He's best known for
Kill List,
Free Fire, and
Cult.
Currently, the film is set to arrive in theatres on March 19th, 2021 (almost exactly three years after its predecessor's debut). Amy Jump is writing the film's script and GK Films is producing.
The first instalment was based on Crystal Dynamics' reboot of the iconic video game franchise. That instalment released in 2013 and has since gotten two sequels. It's thought that the movie sequel will follow the same lines as those games. That isn't a fact but rather an assumption.
Tomb Raider 2 is set to arrive in theatres on March 19th, 2021.
