The first trailer for Paramount's upcoming
Sonic the Hedgehog movie released back in April and was immediately met with a load of backlash. The iconic video game character had been given an eery, new look and fans were far from pleased with it.
After the trailer quickly gained over 700,000 dislikes on YouTube; Jeff Fowler, the film's director, promptly took to social media to announce that the character would be subjected to yet another redesign but this time it would be more faithful to Sonic's typical look.
Due to them having to reanimate the character, essentially from scratch; Fowler announced that the film's release date would be shifted to February 14th, 2020. However, according to the official Twitter account of the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie (via
@Wario64), we'll now have to wait even longer for the blue speedster to race into theatres.
The bio of the aformentioned social media account has been altered, now stating that the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie will arrive in theatres in March of next year. It's not a drastic change, but it's obviously still of note.
Update: Following the attention it recieved on account of being altered; the official Twitter account's bio has now been reverted back to its former self. Unless Paramount plan to officially announce the release date change at a later date; it seems that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie will release in February 2020 after all.
Sonic the Hedgehog will now release in theatres on February 14th, 2019.
