After almost 26 years since the last game was released, Battletoads will finally be making its triumphant return next week, on Thursday the 20th of August, to be more precise — for the Xbox One and PC(Windows 10, Steam), as well as Xbox Game Pass.
Battletoads was initially announced in 2018, and got a proper gameplay trailer during the E3 in 2019. Interestingly enough, the game got a lot of backlash for its rather cartoony art style, but players have warmed up to it ever since.
Once the developers at Dlala Studios showed off some gameplay, longtime fans of the Battletoads series became more convinced that this may well be the proper sequel they have been waiting for for over two decades since they were able to play a new Battletoads.
It isn't just the art style that has changed, however, since gameplay wise the developers have also worked hard to give players a brand-new experience — which is even more reassuring, since they have mentioned that they themselves are fans of the original games.
A recent behind the scenes video released by Rare sees the developers at Dlala Studios revealing some interesting details about the combat in Battletoads, and explaining what is it exactly that will make the new Battletoads game stand out and feel unique, while still giving players the familiar experience they've been waiting for.

It's been quite a while – 26 years, in fact – but at long last, the Battletoads are ready to morph, leap and smash their way back into the limelight for an all-new adventure helmed by Dlala Studios and supported by series creator Rare, a partnership first teased during E3 2018's Xbox showcase. Whether this is your first time encountering the warty warriors or you consider yourself a Battletoads veteran, you won’t have long to wait until the trio burst back onto the scene.
Battletoads will release for the Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass, and PC(Windows 10, Steam) on Thursday the 20th of August.
