Elden Ring: Nightreign, the cooperative action survival spin-off to Elden Ring, is rumored to be released this year. While FromSoftware or publisher Bandai Namco have not officially revealed a date, the announcement could come soon.
Insider-Gaming's Tom Henderson, a prominent video game insider, claims an embargo of media previews will be lifted this week, which will coincide with FromSoftware sharing more details about the game, includng a release date. For now though, we can circle May on our calendars as a possibility.
Revealed at The Game Awards in December, Elden Ring: Nightreign is a cooperative survival action game set in a universe parallel to the events in Elden Ring, FromSoftware's 2022 Game of the Year. Players can go solo or with a group of three and attempt to survive a three-day-and-night cycle, exploring an ever-changing map and taking on increasingly difficult bosses.
A general overview of Elden Ring: Nightreign's core gameplay loop was shared back in December, but FromSoftware is expected to diver into greater details this week. FromSoftware previously explained of the game:
Their journeys take them to Limveld, where they will have to make split-second decisions when it comes to combat and exploration in the face of a night cycle that shrinks the map with the coming Night’s Tide.
At the end of each night, players will face a powerful boss and, if victorious, awaken to bigger challenges. Each session will culminate in the third night when they must face off against the chosen Nightlord. Individuals can fight the night alone, but strength will come in numbers. Nightfarers must learn to cooperate to take down these challenges, combining their unique abilities together for an unparalleled experience in the Elden Ring universe.
All is not lost for those who fall in defeat. Unsuccessful runs will grant players relics to allow them to customize and upgrade their characters tailored to their personal play styles.
Players will get their first taste of this condensed action RPG this week. FromSoftware is hosting a Network Test that will run from Friday, February 14th through Monday, February 17th. There are currently five play sessions scheduled throughout the weekend that are designed to test various technical verifications of online systems. Registration for the test is, unfortunately, closed right now, with invites having already been sent out.
With the Network Test taking place this week, it makes sense that FromSoftware would want to get ahead of any footage that leaks online and share proper details. Whenever Elden Ring: Nightreign does arrive, it will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
