Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the upcoming action adventure game from Skydance New Media, has been delayed. Originaly slated for a 2025 release, the game will now launch in "early" 2026.
"Taking this additional time will allow us to add more polish, and make sure we give you the best possible experience, and one that lives up to our vision," the development team wrote in a statement. "We have some exciting things in store and look forward to sharing more soon!"
First teased at D23 Expo in 2022, Skydance and Marvel officially revealed the game's full title, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, at GDC in March 2024. The narrative-driven action-adventure is inspired by the 2010 Marvel Comics limited series Captain America / Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers. The game's story follows Steve Rogers/Captain America and Azzuri/Black Panther as they team up to prevent the rise of Hydra in German-occupied France during World War II.
The campaign will support up to four players through online multiplayer. In addition to Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Azzuri (Black Panther), you'll be able to play as Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, leader of the fledgling Wakandan Spy Network.
In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy. Fighting alongside Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris, they must join forces to stop a sinister plot that threatens to turn the havoc of WWII into the ultimate rise of Hydra.
There hasn't been a ton of information shared about Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra since the story trailer was released a year ago at GDC; however, the promise of "exciting things" coming soon should build some anticipation.
The annual Summer Game Fest is scheduled to kick off on June 6, 2025 with a main show that presents major game reveals and trailers. The official list of participating developers and publishers has not yet been revealed, but EA has previously participated in past Summer Game Fest events. It's possible that more details about Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will be revealed this summer
An early 2026 release is certainly an interesting choice, especially as Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will now face stiff competition from Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar recently announced that it's blockbuster action adventure will now launch on May 26, 2026.
