Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' upcoming
Marvel's Avengers has given both hardcore fans of the characters and players a lot to talk about, since the project was first announced. While the E3 trailer may have had some fans divided, every new bit of information has slowly been winning doubters over.
The developers have revealed that we will see the team in bad shape after the events of A-Day — where the Earth's Mightiest Heroes lost their leader: Captain America. The trailer also revealed that the Avengers pretty much have gone their separate ways, and it's actually what will get the plot of the game moving.
In a recent interview, actor Travis Willingham — who plays Thor Odinson in
Marvel's Avengers — has revealed some interesting details about his character; teasing that his unintended actions will echo throughout the game's story.
"
Cap is the only human Thor thinks might actually be worthy to hold Mjolnir, and he failed him," explained Willingham.
"
Not only has he failed, but the 'mortals' are arguing amongst themselves - unable to unite without their Captain. Even Thor can’t fill Cap’s shoes."
While Thor may be one of the strongest Avengers, he — much like everybody else on the team — knows that without Captain America the team may not be a team at; leading him to make a choice that will definitely bring some consequences with it.
"
Thor will make an interesting choice that has unintended consequences that will echo throughout the campaign and fully unfold in the game’s story."
With every bit of information that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics reveal about
Marvel's Avengers, the more fans realize that the game will not only be an Avengers story, as it seems that it will be very character-driven; allowing players to follow each of the character's stories as the plot unfolds.
Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Marvel's Avengers will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on the 15th of May in 2020.
