After over year's wait for the fan-favourite character to be revealed and introduced, Crystal Dynamics finally unveiled their incarnation of Spider-Man just a couple of days ago — with an exciting cinematic trailer that you can check out here. What's more, he will be swinging into Marvel's Avengers as the newest playable character on November 30th — just two weeks from now.
This new version of the iconic webhead will be taking on the nefarious robotics of A.I.M. along with the titular team of heroes, as the official synopsis for the upcoming story update reveals. Not much else is known about this version of the character, though, some lore information can be theorised based on his alternate skins; for instance, one of them has Peter garbed in school attire with a camera slung over his shoulder. You can check out some of the alternate skins here.
Traditionally, Peter Parker is a teenaged high-school student who works as a photographer for the Daily Bugle. Though, recent iterations of the character have put a spin on that. Insomniac Games' version of Spider-Man, for instance, is older and more experienced, having been Spider-Man for eight years and faced a great deal of iconic foes.
Based on the aforementioned cinematic trailer for the upcoming "Spider-Man: With Great Power" update and in-game event, it's unclear how old and how experienced this new version of the webslinger is. His stature would suggest an older version of the character but his voice is particularly youthful. This was a topic of conversation over on the Marvel's Avengers subreddit following the debut of the trailer. Thankfully, Crystal Dynamic Senion Brand Manager, Nick Edwards stepped in to clear things up.
According to Edwards, this version of Peter Parker is "around college age," and thus is "out of high school." Additionally, Edwards revealed that this version of the webslinger has been partaking in 'superheroics' longer than Kamala Khan A.K.A. Ms. Marvel has been. However, like Kamala, Peter began his superhero career after A-Day (the day the Avengers fell). Perhaps Peter was inspired by the Avengers and decided the somebody that needed to take up the mantle as one of Earth's mightiest heroes was him.
Peter Parker uncovers AIM's new plan to acquire technology that could make their Synthoid army unstoppable and total domination inevitable. He must partner with the Avengers to stop this looming threat, and forms a tentative friendship with Ms. Marvel and Black Widow while keeping his identity hidden. As a Hero accustomed to working solo, he struggles with the new dynamics of working with a team. Will he join up full-time with the Avengers, or stay independent in his fight against AIM?
Marvel's Avengers — Spider-Man: With Great Power debuts on November 30th, exclusively on PlayStation 5.
