Before its release, No Man's Sky was one of the most overhyped titles of this generation of consoles; one that would redefine videogame exploration. It was definitely ambitious, but the game was not able to deliver on its promise when it finally became available.
Players were disappointed, and developer Hello Games took some time off to figure things out. What's commendable here, is the fact that the developers could've easily called it quits but they didn't; they kept pushing forward, and eventually delivered a massive update that finally gave players most of the things that were initially promised.
These days, No Man's Sky is a game that has far exceeded the expectations players had even before the game was released; featuring tonnes of new content that allowed players to build their own intergalactic communities, and even interact with one another online; a feature that was promised very early on, but that was missing from the game on launch day.
Today Hello Games has released No Man's Sky: Origins, which is the biggest update that the developer has ever launched for their open-universe exploration title, and there are actually quite a few things that separate this update from previous ones like No Man's Sky: Next and No Man's Sky: Beyond.
Much like the name very appropriately suggests, No Man's Sky: Origins is a new beginning of sorts. HelloGames' Sean Murray describes it as a new start for Hello Games, as they have added new things, and have also taken the liberty to change things up a little bit.
New planets have been added, and these will from now on be the planets players will be discovering. Murray has also revealed — in a recent interview with IGN, which you can watch down below — that players may have left their character in one planet, but once they play the game again, the planet may be slightly different.
Murray does reassure players that, while the planets may be different from now on, all of the progress that players have made — as a community, even — will remain intact, so this will not be rebooting the game, or hindering the hard work players have put into this universe; it will just look different.
To sum things up, because the official patch notes for the No Man's Sky: Origins are ridiculously lengthy, Hello Games has added new planets, added new creatures, colossal buildings, and weather conditions, and is also fixing a plethora of bugs that players and the developers have encountered.
