Project Athia is Square Enix's brand-new intellectual property, which is currently being developed for the PlayStation 5 and PC by the Hajime Tabta-led Luminous Productions. This new game was announced last month, although much information about it wasn't really shared.

We do know for a fact that Project Athia is an story driven action-adventure game, and that it will be taking place in an open world that players will be able to freely explore. No release date has been revealed just yet, but everything shown in the announcement trailer looked more than promising.

Because it was initially revealed that Project Athia was being developed with the PlayStation 5 hardware in mind, it is fair to ask whether the PC version will be superior in any way; considering that this is usually the case when it comes to PC and current-gen platforms.

During a recent interview with Weekly Toyo Keizai Plus, as translated by the people over at Gematsu, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda revealed that Project Athia's performance on both the PlayStation 5 and PC will be pretty much the same.

"Compared to what you see on PC, it is nearly identical. By utilizing these special traits, we're able to create incredibly precise imagery. We still plan on developing well-balanced games tailored to a platform's traits, including smartphone and cloud-based games, but we will never stop developing for high-end platforms such as PS5. Because these things are packed with the best technology," Matsuda explained.

It is important to mention that Project Athia is a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, so while the game will be releasing on PC as well, it will definitely not be launching on the Xbox Series X. With that said, it's interesting to see Square Enix and Luminous Productions this excited to develop for the PlayStation 5.

Furthermore, it is interesting to see the developers wanting to develop for high-end platforms like the PlayStation 5 and see just how far they can push the console's limits. It really is nice to see developers this excited for the next generation of consoles as players themselves are.

Watch a breathtaking first look at PROJECT ATHIA (working title), a thrilling story-led, action-packed adventure from our new studio, Luminous Productions. PROJECT ATHIA is the culmination of Luminous Productions’ philosophy to create a completely new and fresh gaming experiences that fuses together the latest technologies with art.

Project Athia is currently in development for the PlayStation 5 and PC.
