If there is anything that Japanese developers seem to love, it's absurd teasing about a studio's next project. GenDesign, which made a name for itself for the 2016 PS4 exclusive, The Last Guardian, has teased some sort of announcement slated some time this year.
Previously, we knew of some new game teased on the company's website in 2018 and followed up in 2021 with a greeting card, but not much else after the fact. It seems this year, we'll get more info as it will be a year with "lots to talk about," according to the dev's greeting card.
Spearheaded by the leader of the now-defunct Team Ico, Fumito Ueda, genDesign was founded alongside a slew of former Team Ico staff in 2014. Known for leading the charge in making the 2001 PS2 classic, Ico, only to follow it up in 2005 with the even more well-known PS3 title, Shadow of the Colossus, a lot was on the table. The last project he worked on was The Last Guardian since he was under contract to do so.
While not much is known about this new project, it's likely to be published under Epic Games Publishing, the new branch of Epic Games, which already has inked contracts with Remedy Entertainment, Playdead, and The Last Guardian dev. Ueda even mentioned how it wants to reach as many gamers as possible with this deal since he left the comfort of AAA development in 2011.
Unfortunately, there isn't much else to be said, we'll likely hear more about this new game during some game showcase, or it could just be some random video or tweet, only time will tell.
