In March of last year, Daedelic Entertainment announced that they were working on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which is a brand-new game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's best-selling, critically acclaimed The Lord of the Rings series of books, and that focuses entirely on Sméagol(Gollum)'s journey.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was initially revealed to be an action-adventure game, although information has recently revealed that this game will also be incorporating stealth elements, which makes a lot of sense considering that Gollum has managed to stay alive by beaing sneaky and, well, stealthy.
According to the developers at Daedelic Entertainment, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is also a story driven title that will shed some light on the life that Sméago has been leading as Golum, which will definitely be interesting to explore.
The live-action The Lord of the Rings trilogy movies directed by Peter Jackson did a great job fleshing out the character, so it will be interesting to see Daedelic Entertainment's take on the duality between Gollum and Sméagol; maybe, even, in the same way Jackson gracefully did with the character's internal monologues/dialogues between both personalities.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been confirmed to release for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and PC in 2021, and today we finally have a first official look thanks to a teaser trailer shared by Daedelic Entertainment via IGN.
Unfortunately, this teaser trailer doesn't show off any gameplay, but it does give us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the game's aesthetic, which is definitely borrowing elements from Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
