Daedelic Entertainment has had fans of The Lord of the Rings anticipating the upcoming video game based on the popular series of books by J.R.R. Tolkien, especially because the developers have decided to focus on Gollum as the main protagonist of the story — which, in and of itself, is a rather bold decision to make.
Some details about the game itself have been released over the last few days, like the fact that the game is officially confirmed to release for current-gen consoles, meaning that PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and even Nintendo Switch players will be able to enjoy come 2021.
The latest, juicy detail about The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was revealed by Lead Designer Martin Wilkes, who has revealed that it would be appropriate to compare Daedelic Entertainment's take on The Lord of the Rings to Ubisoft's Prince of Persia series.
According to Wilkes, "The game mixes stealth with vertical climbing parkour. If you want a reference you might think of it as similar to Prince of Persia. It is mostly a non-combat game, but Gollum will be able to stealthily take out enemies.
"However, this will not be easy and always come with big risks. We want players to carefully weigh these encounters. After all, Gollum’s strengths lie in cunning not combat."
We have known for a while that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a stealth game, but it is definitely interesting to see the game being compared to the Prince of Persia series, especially early titles in which the game actually focused on exploration and not so much on action.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum still doesn't have an official release date, but every detail that is revealed about the game has definitely made some players even more interested in it. We'll have to keep waiting for the developers at Daedelic Entertainment to reveal more details about this intriguing title.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is expected to release for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2021.
