We have some great news for fans of top quality metroidvania and 2D platformers, as new information has revealed that the critically acclaimed The Messenger, from independent developer Sabotage Studio, will be launching on Xbox One as soon as next week.
This information was actually not shared by neither Devolver Digital, the game's publisher, nor Sabotage Studio, as it was spotted on Microsoft's official website for Xbox Live by Twitter user @h0x0d.
As revealed by the listing on the Xbox Live website, Sabotage Studio's The Messenger will be launching on Thursday the 25th of June, and will require an approximate of 1.73GB of space to install. While not revealed on the site, it is also very likely that a pack with the game's DLC will be also offered at a later date.
The Messenger was originally released for the Nintendo Switch and PC in August of 2018, and a PlayStation 4 version of the game launched in March of 2019. Interestingly enough, the game is a 2D platformer for the entirety of its main campaign, and then becomes a metroidvania that encourages exploration.
What's perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of The Messenger is that there are some time portals in the game, which makes the game go from 8-bit style to a polished 16-bit graphics with a headbanging soundtrack to go with.
It is definitely nice to see The Messenger finally becoming available on Xbox One — since it is a game that no self-respecting fan of the 8-bit and 16-bit era should miss out on; more importantly, it is a great game overall — and most definitely a must-play.
As a demon army besieges his village, a young ninja ventures through a cursed world, to deliver a scroll paramount to his clan’s survival. What begins as a classic action platformer soon unravels into an expansive time-traveling adventure full of thrills, surprises, and humor.
