Yooka-Laylee is a game that has always been catering to that demographic that grew up with titles like Super Mario 64 and the Banjo-Kazooie series. In fact, developer Playtonic is conformed by former Rare employees who actually worked on Banjo-Kazooie.
For those who may still not be aware of this, Yooka-Laylee is also Banjo-Kazooie's spiritual successor, and it successfully managed to recapture that something special that the Rare-developed game had; mission accomplished.
In order to actually give Yooka-Laylee that retro feel, Playtonic announced last year that the Nintendo Switch and PC versions of the game would be getting a 64-Bit Tonic that would give the game that pixelated, and downgraded retro look from the 64-bit era.
Unfortunately, this tonic was not released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game; that is, until now. Today, the 64-Bit Tonic has finally become available, and all players have to do is speak to Vendi and the tonic will be available for them; taking them back to the late 90s.
Explore huge, beautiful worlds, meet (and beat) an unforgettable cast of characters and horde a vault-load of shiny collectibles as buddy-duo Yooka (the green one) and Laylee (the wisecracking bat with the big nose) embark on an epic adventure to thwart corporate creep Capital B and his devious scheme to absorb all the world’s books… and convert them into pure profit!
Yooka-Laylee is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC.
