A Way Out is the latest game directed by Josef Fares, the author of wonderful Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The game tells the story of prisoners Leo and Vincent, who are planning to escape as soon as possible and start a new life. Fares is a confident fella and every time you see him during a press event, be sure to have your popcorn ready as his presence is more entertaining that the main shows.
While speaking with IGN about his game, Fares explained that there were some different options available when it came to signing on a publisher for his ambitious project, and it was a neck and neck race between Electronic Arts and Microsoft. “Brothers opened a lot of doors,” Fares explained “I was very close to signing with Microsoft. It was like a week between. We were super close.”
A Way Out was ultimately published by Electronic Arts (under their indie-friendly Originals initiative), but Fares had nothing but kind words about his dealings with Microsoft, particularly with Xbox head Phil Spencer. “I think that was the best thing that could happen to Microsoft,” he said of Spencer’s appointment. “That guy is a super cool guy, super passionate about games.” You can watch the short interview with Josef 'F*** the Oscars' Fares down below:
