EA Originals was designed to support smaller projects that don’t require having big budgets, games like Unravel 1 & 2, Fe, and A Way Out, telling the story of Leo and Vincent who are trying to survive imprisoned, also planning to run away and work together after the big escape, constantly watching their backs. The game's director Josef Fares has nothing but good things to say about the publisher.
Speaking with VG247, Fares revealed that people should change their attitude while criticizing Electronic Arts and their decisions such as the closure of studios like Pandemic and Bullfrog. “I would love to release some internal emails,” Fares said. “I think people would be jaw-dropping surprised if they saw the internal emails – at least the way I’m being treated by EA. Super good support."
All profit generated by games released under the EA Originals banner goes back to the devs behind those smaller games. “I know nobody believes this. I say this all the time, every publisher f*cks up at some point – Microsoft, Nintendo, I don’t care who," Fares added. "And here’s the thing, when you’re in the industry people jump around all the time. It’s all bullshit. The only thing we should care about is good games."
“It’s also important to react when there’s something to react to. I do think that lootboxes, you should be like, ‘What the [frick] is this?’ There should be a reaction. As long as we can focus creatively on what we’re doing, it’s super good," Fares concluded. Thanks to EA, A Way Out was bought by at least one million consumers, meaning that over two million players experienced the co-op only adventure.
From the creators of Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons comes A Way Out, an exclusively co-op adventure where you play the role of one of two prisoners making their daring escape from prison. What begins as a thrilling breakout quickly turns into an unpredictable, emotional adventure unlike anything seen or played before.
A Way Out is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC!
