Yves Guillemot, announced during the earnings call for Ubisoft that The Assassin's Creed movie will start filming soon. Produced by New Regency and 20th Century Fox, will hit theaters on December 21, 2016. There isn't many details we know so far about the movie, although we do know that Michael Fassbender will be playing the lead roll. He is best known for his role in Inglorious Bastards and a young Magneto in the recent X-Men films.
This isn't the only video game movie that is in production right now. Blizzard just wrapped up filming of The Warcraft movie. Ubisoft also has movies based on Far Cry, Rabbids, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon all in the pipeline at some point.
Fans have wondered if they'd ever see their favorite games on the big screen. There have been a long list of movies that were based on video games, but almost all of them flopped. So what will it take for a video game movie to make it? In the case of Ubisoft they have retained all the creative rights to all of their movies. If they can create story lines for a video game, then they should be able to create one epic movie.
We'd like to point out it is easier to make a movie than a video game and its cheaper. The massive revenue that many video game studios are making they should be able to invest enough capital in a movie to make them great and unique. Here is to hoping that these movies capture the awesome story lines we are accustomed to seeing in video games!
