The launch of Assassin's Creed wasn't exactly the greatest launch of all time. It even had some reviewers up in arms because they weren't allowed to release their reviews ahead of schedule. In some cases had to wait a week to reveal their findings. During their quarterly call Ubisoft unveiled some of the troubles they had making Assassin's Creed Unity.
“Assassin’s Creed Unity was able to deliver the most beautiful graphics we’ve ever created,” said company CEO Yves Guillemot. “Next fiscal year, we will launch a new Assassin’s Creed game based on the same technology and engine that powers Assassin’s Creed Unity. We are very confident that the experiences earned and lessons learned on Unity, along with customer feedback, will help us take Assassin’s Creed to the next level.”
“It’s very important to understand there’s a new transition of consoles; we try to create engines that take full advantage of the capacity of the consoles,” Guillemot explained. “In the case of Unity, we had to re-do 100 percent of the engine. When you do that, it’s painful and it has to be re-calibrated. With this game, a few things were not perfect when it launched and it’s going to help the brand shine in the future.”
Does this reassure fans of the Assassin's Creed franchise that they're doing everything to make it right? We don't know exactly know. We do, however, think that to get back into the good graces of the fans they need to take their time. Why rush a game that is full of obvious glitches that can effect the storyline, the gameplay and make you look like you rushed the game.
When GameFragger first saw Arno in action we could see some of these glitches right off the bat. Did these things take away from the game? A little bit, but it is still a good game and its worth playing. Hopefully the re-tooling of the engine is finished and they can continue to make solid games. It takes one good game to get back into good standing with the fans, but they might be hesitant at first to purchase games in the future.
