Ubisoft's Work On ASSASSIN’S CREED: UNITY May Help In Rebuilding Parts Of Notre Dame Cathedral

To create the in-game model of Notre Dame Cathedral in Assassin's Creed: Unity, the team at Ubisoft Montreal spent around two years modelling the landmark inside and out, resulting in a detailed 3D model of the world-famous building. Considering that Ubisoft's digitized version of the Notre Dame inside and outside includes even the smallest details, like the exact paintings that were hanging on the walls in the 18th century, it comes as no surprise that Ubisoft's work will be used in its restoration.

Given that the iconic cathedral in Paris caught fire two days, causing the roof and spire to collapse, the damage is huge and it will take years before visitors will be able to see Notre Dame the way it used to be. As revealed by to GPS World, French officials will use that model (and other 3D mappings of the building, including the stunningly realistic panoramic photographs made by the National Geographic crew in 2015) to rebuild some parts of the cathedral such as the ceiling and internal woodwork.

In an interview with The Verge four years ago, Caroline Miousse, a level artist on Unity, revealed that she "spent 80 percent of my time was spent on the Notre Dame." As the biggest in-game structure, the cathedral is a truly impressive building, and according to Miousse, Ubisoft "added things like cables and incense across the second level of Notre Dame so players would be able to move around easier when they’re above the ground. I also think it adds a personal touch to the monument. I’ve left my little mark on a few parts of Notre Dame and there’s something remarkable about that."

At the time of writing, wealthy industrialists and ordinary individuals had donated more than €600m to help restore the world-famous Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and you can do the same RIGHT HERE.
