Recently, the CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot did an interview with a Chinese outlet by the name of
Bilibili. Since this interview, there have been countless reports which claim that Guillemot confirmed that the next instalment in the popular
Assassin's Creed game series will be set in China. However, this is not the case (via
@ZhugeEX).
Instead, Guillemot simply admitted that he would love to see a future, mainline instalment take place in China. The reports stating otherwise likely came about due to some mistranslation.
Previously,
Assassin's Creed has ventured into that portion of the world with a minor instalment named
Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China. However, that game was a side-scroller and thus not considered a mainline instalment.
Despite not explicitly stating that the very next entry in the
Assassin's Creed series will take place in China; Guillemot mentioning that he'd love to see the main series go to China seems to be suggestion enough that a future instalment will take place there. He is the CEO after all — so it isn't crazy to think that he'd have some sway in terms of where franchises under Ubisoft's banner will go.
