After taking a break in 2016, no new
Assassin's Creed title will be released in 2019, giving the next
Watch_Dogs entry a chance to shine and top lists of the best-selling video games all around the globe.
Last February, an anonymous 4Chan user revealed that 2020's
Assassin's Creed would be set in Italy at the end of Marcus Aurelius' reign, focusing on his struggles during the Year of the Five Emperors (193 AD). Apparently, this Ubisoft Sofia-developed title would allow players to choose between playing as Cassius or Lucia, descendants of unknown characters from
Origins and
Odyssey, akin to that latter title.
While nothing has been confirmed or denied by Ubisoft yet, this is most definitely a hoax, as some recently discovered Easter Eggs in
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 suggest that next year's installment could be potentially set in the Viking Age. As a reminder, in a survey from 2017, Ubisoft asked fans about the possibility of making upcoming
AC games focused on "
the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta in Classical Greece," "
the violent conflicts of the Imperial Dynasties in Medieval China," and "
Viking invasions and their great army," among many others.
Given that we won't be officially hearing about that title until after
Watch_Dogs 3 launches, be sure to learn more about the rumored direction of next year's
Assassin’s Creed in the new video down below:
