During a recent Reddit AMA with Johnathan Dumont, Assassin's Creed Odyssey Creative Director revealed that the game's psychical copies will have two reversible covers featuring the main heroes, Alexios and Kassandra. Similar to Syndicate, you’ll be able to play as either a male or a female hero, but the decision will be final and you won't be able to switch the characters during the playthrough.

Dumont also confirmed that picking Kassandra will be the canon option, stating that, “Yes there will be a canon represented in the novel. It features Kassandra and her journey.” Despite those announcements, some fans are not pleased and wonder why Alexios, the male hero is heavily featured in Odyssey's marketing campaign, including images on the Steam page and presence in trailers.

PCGamesN asked Ubisoft why Kassandra is absent from Odyssey's marketing, despite being featured prominently in the gameplay demo shown at E3. In response, a spokesperson told the website that “As metadata had to be sent some time before the official reveal, some retail pages will not showcase the full selection of assets. Store pages will, however, be updated throughout the course of the campaign to include new assets that reflect both our leading characters, as featured at the announce of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey across all our asset packs.“

Considering that the long gameplay showed during E3 2018 was centered on Kassandra and Ubisoft confirmed that Odyssey will feature a reversible cover sleeve with the other protagonist, and you can pre-order a special edition with her figure, it's pretty safe to say that Ubisoft takes lessons from this controversy.
