It's no secret that Ubisoft puts a heavy emphasis on the faithful recreation of buildings, mannerisms and stories in the Assassin's Creed universe’s version of the real-world events and places. The latest installment in the series, Odyssey, is set during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. The said war took place between 431-404 BC, nearly 400 years before the events of last year's Origins.
The fact that Odyssey is a prequel gave Ubisoft a chance to tell the "true" origin of the Assassin's Creed universe as neither the Assassins nor the Templars had officially been formed back then. To do just that, Ubisoft decided to hire a specialists with a PhD in ancient history to create a faithful version of Ancient Greece, as revealed in the latest episode of the Did You Know Gaming? show.
What's even more impressive, Ubisoft Quebec took inspiration from the dialogues of Plato to create the game's conversation tree. The studio also studied the work of Homer and his Odyssey, that influenced Ubisoft production's story, beasts and even naval combat.
