Capcom has released a new trailer for its upcoming action-adventure Monster Hunter Wilds. Packed in this nearly three-minute trailer are all-new details about the highly anticipated game, including the reveal of an all-new hunting ground and the monsters that lurk there, new story and gameplay details, and more.
Set to arrive in 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds is the next evolution of Capcom's beloved monster-slaying action RPG. The game takes us to the Forbidden Lands, a wild new frontier — a living world with an ever-changing climate and, of course, dangerous threats.
The new hunting ground is The Scarlet Forest, a lush setting with towering greenery contrasted by waters dyed a crimson hue. "Like the other ecosystems in Monster Hunter Wilds, the Scarlet Forest is a dynamic environment that undergoes periods of Plenty, Inclemency, and Fallow that transform the landscape and wildlife residing within it," Capcom teases.
Naturally, The Scarlet Forest is lurking with threats, including a new spider-like monster known as the Lala Barina. Part of the rare Temnoceran class of monsters seen in the franchise, the Lala Barina possesses sharp, spindly limbs and can unfurl its thorax into a massive, rose-like form.
We also get to see The Forbidden Lands ever-changing environments in action. Returning us to the Windward Plains, seen in other previous trailers, we see the difference between the Fallow period and a locale's Inclemency. During the Fallow period, hungry predators are roaming the land for food, resulting in more aggressive behavior. The Inclemency drastically alters the ecosystem — it's a harsh ecological event that results in the area's dangerous apex monster making an appearance.
In the Windward Plains, this Inclemency is a rolling sandstorm with thunder known as the Sandtide. And it's when you have the chance to catch a glimpse of the locale's apex predator, the Flying Wyvern, previously teased at Summer Game Fest.
In addition to the new locales and threats, the trailer also introduces us to some of the NPCs you'll meet in your journey, Support Hunters who can help fill holes in your party. One of these NPCs is Olivia, a hammer-wielding member of the Forbidden Lands Research Commission, who will also play a key role in the story.
The great thing about this trailer is that most of the new things shown are done so through gameplay, so it's an incredible look at the action-packed gameplay that awaits in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Monster Hunter Wilds is set to release in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
