AQUAMAN Director James Wan Will Produce A Reboot Of The RESIDENT EVIL Franchise
The Resident Evil franchise only recently came to an end, but plans are already in place to reboot the series and it definitely sounds like things will be heading in a slightly different direction...
The Resident Evil movies have never been a hit with critics, but the franchise has earned over $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office. That makes it the all-time highest-grossing series based on a video game and the second biggest horror franchise behind only the Alien movies. With all that in mind, plans for a reboot probably won't surprise you.
According to Deadline, James Wan (Aquaman) will produce the movie and he's no stranger to horror following his work on The Conjuring and its sequel not to mention as a producer on the likes of Lights Out and Saw. Greg Russo meanwhile will be penning the screenplay and a whole new cast is expected to be found for the rebooted franchise.
The plan is for this movie to be the first of six and given Wan's involvement, you have to wonder if Resident Evil will now head down the haunted house route rather than the bombastic action the films starring Milla Jovovich went in. We'll have to wait and see, but it's now apparent that this is one video game franchise going nowhere!
