The first title in Capcom's popular Resident Evil series was released all the way back in March of 1996 for the PlayStation, and it became an instant hit as one of the first games to popularise the survival horror genre as we know it nowadays.
In March of next year, the Resident Evil series will be celebrating its 25th anniversary, and it seems that Capcom is currently preparing something really special for this occasion, and this information actually comes from Capcom japan's official website.
"We are looking for licensees, focusing on the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil series (March 2021) and product development of the latest title Resident Evil 3. We are looking forward to planning campaigns and goods that take advantage of the world view of Resident Evil," read Capcom's announcement.
These licensing partners Capcom is looking to assemble will help with merchandising and other goods, so even a brand-new video game is a possibility; considering that for the Resident Evil series' 20th anniversary Capcom released the fairly divisive Umbrella Corps.
Last month a rumour suggested that Resident Evil 8 would be releasing at some point in 2021, so maybe Capcom will be officially announcing a new game in June of this year, when most developers are expected to unveil their upcoming projects in the same vein they would've done it had E3 2020 not been cancelled.
A Resident Evil 4 remake has also been rumoured to be currently in the works at Capcom, and this game actually has even more chances to release in 2021 than the rumoured Resident Evil 8.
With all that said, commemorating the series' 25th anniversary doesn't warrant that a new game will be announced, but rumours tend to suggest that this will be the case. We'll just have to patiently wait and see.
