Resident Evil 2 came out in 1998 and is the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game
Resident Evil released in 1996. The game considered by many to be one of the best entries in the series right after
Resident Evil 4—which is considered the best. Which is why so many people where excited when Capcom officially announced that the project for a
Resident Evil 2 Remake had been approved. The official announcement will be posted at the end of the article but you need to activate the subtitles given that the video is in Japanese.
While the news about the
Resident Evil 2 Remake was officially announced in August of 2015, not much has been shared about the project—if anything at all. This has had many fans wondering if this remake is ever going to see the light of day or not; especially since it's already been almost 3 years since the announcement.
Today we got some new information coming from
Rely On Horror, who got news about the
Resident Evil 2 Remake via a source that claims to be close to the project. According to the source, the game will be revealed at this year E3—which is only a month away— but it is based mostly on speculation given the targeted release date.
The
Resident Evil 2 Remake is also rumoured to run on the
RE Engine, albeit with optimised, and upgraded tech to improve on lighting and shadows. The source also mentions that the game is aiming to lock the game at 30fps in 1080p, and 60fps at native 4K on the PS4 Pro.
Apparently, the game will be using an over-the-shoulder(OTS) perspective, which is likely to disappoint some fans that wanted the classic fixed-camera style to return. On the other hand,
Resident Evil 4—considered the best game in the franchise—also used an OTS perspective. The problem here is that it was designed that way, and
Resident Evil 2 relies 100% on fixed camera angles since much of the game's atmosphere, as well as its suspense, came from not knowing what was right around the corner.
Take this information with a grain of salt, though, since none of this has been in any way confirmed by Capcom and is only speculation. That said, it would be nice to finally get some update on the project that has remained silent for far too long.
