Fans of the brand are anxiously awaiting Teyon's upcoming game, RoboCop: Rogue City. Although the game's age rating has not been officially verified yet, it is expected to be rated "M" for mature audiences based on the overwhelming violence contained in the 1987 movie and the developer's desire to provide a mature game experience.
According to game director Piotr Latocha, the creative team Teyon had always planned for a more mature rating from the beginning of the game's development. They wanted to ensure that they did not limit themselves to a teen rating or compromise the brutal nature that fans expect from the RoboCop universe.
The 1987 film RoboCop, directed by Paul Verhoeven, is notorious for its bloody depictions of violence. One of the most appealing aspects of the movie is the graphic, over-the-top violence that is reminiscent of comic books.
The story takes place in a dystopian and lawless version of Detroit, where a police officer who is mortally injured is resurrected as the cyborg law enforcer RoboCo. The movie's depiction of violence functions as a form of social satire, offering commentary on the increasingly commercialized world of the 1980s. Hence the five video games made since then!
Latocha noted that the crew aimed to represent the same level of brutality seen in the movie without any substantial edits or toning down. They intended to build a mature game that genuinely represented the brutal aspect of the RoboCop franchise. By doing so, they intended to attain the target rating while satisfying the expectations of the supporters.
Based on the existing videos and gameplay footage, it is apparent that RoboCop: Rogue City will contain brutal and gruesome battle situations. The game will allow gamers to observe RoboCop eliminating bad guys in a manner similar to the films. The team has gone to the lengths necessary to convey what they meant without compromising their vision for the game.
As the game approaches its release, fans can anticipate an aggressive and mature gaming experience that stays faithful to the spirit of the original RoboCop movie.
RoboCop: Rogue City is scheduled to be released in September for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
