Insomniac Games is currently putting the finishing touches to Spider-Man 2 while also developing a Wolverine game. However, in recent days, there have been rumblings about them working on a third AAA title.
A new Ratchet & Clank is certainly a possibility, while there are plenty of other great Marvel Comics characters we're sure the developer could blow us all away with (Daredevil instantly springs to mind).
GAMINGBible, however, believes we may be getting a Venom spin-off.
It's worth noting that Tony Todd recently sent speculation into overdrive by Tweeting, "Just booked another significant voiceover for you know who #DevourThis." That may or may not be a reference to everyone's favourite Symbiote, but a Venom game makes sense on a number of levels.
In Spider-Man 2, we'll get to take control of Peter Parker as he makes use of the Venom Symbiote's extra abilities. The prevailing theory is that, for at least part of the sequel, we'll actually play as Venom, so Insomniac might already have everything it needs for a spin-off.
There's a chance this is DLC, of course, though we'd bet any Venom game will be akin to Spider-Man: Miles Morales. That was a much shorter adventure but gave players access to the entirety of New York City and was a showcase for what the PlayStation 5 can do.
If a spin-off like that really is on the way, we wouldn't necessarily expect it to be released until late 2024 or beyond (possibly dropping alongside the next iteration of the PS5). And, if it's a full-blown game, we're likely to be waiting longer than even that.
The synopsis for the game reads, "Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, return for an exciting new adventure in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise."
"Swing, jump and utilise the new Web Wings to travel across Marvel’s New York, quickly switching between Peter Parker and Miles Morales to experience different stories and epic new powers, as the iconic villain Venom threatens to destroy their lives, their city and the ones they love."
Spider-Man 2 swings into stores on October 20.
