The reveal of MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales took everyone by surprise, especially when it was revealed that it would be a launch title for the highly anticipated PlayStation 5. It couldn't have come at a better time either, since Miles Morales' popularity is at an all-time high thanks to the Academy Award winning Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.

MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a direct sequel/spin-off to the original MARVEL's Spider-Man; one that the developers at Insomniac Games have confirmed to be similar in scope to what Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is to Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, MARVEL's Spider-Man Creative Director Bryan Intihar has revealed that the developers at Insomniac Games always knew that they wanted Miles to be bitten by the radioactive spider by the end of the game, and see what they came up with after the fact.

"We knew really early that [Spider-Man] was going to end with him getting the spider bite. We would tease it during development. I think everybody was focused on, 'Can you make the first one really good and we'll worry about the other stuff later?' But we wanted to have that set up so if it became a reality [to do another game] we could pull it off," Intihar explained.

Interestingly enough, Intihar also reveals that at one point the team considered to have Miles be bitten by the spider as an after credits scene, but they opted to do it in-game to show just how committed they were to telling his story.

"At one point during an early workshop session, Miles was going to be a post-credits scene reveal and nothing more, but Intihar says the team determined it was important to "see the roots of him being a hero before he even had spider powers. One of the reasons we put that out was to hopefully convince people that 'He's a Spider-Man now. Can we have a game with him?'," Intihar added.

Here's where things get even more interesting, as MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Creative Director Brian Horton has also given away some important details about the upcoming PlayStation 5 title; reassuring players that this game is a proper story arc for Miles.

"This is a full arc for Miles Morales that started in Spider-Man. We really are completing this hero's coming of age in our game. It is a complete story," Horton explained.

MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales still doesn't have an official release date, but the PlayStation 5 is expected to launch at some point this Holiday. From what the developers have revealed about the game so far, though, it seems like players will be getting a pretty good run for their money when MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales finally hits store shelves.

In the meantime, and courtesy of the people over at Entertainment Weekly, you can check out the all-new in-game screenshot shared for MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which sees the young hero striking a pose in his signature black and red suit.
