The Rhysida ransomware group recently hacked Insomniac Games and, after the company refused to pay them roughly $2 million, they've released a total ofΒ 1.67 terabytes of data which contains more than 1.3 million files.
There's a great deal of sensitive information included in the leak, including information about Insomniac employees such as passport scans and HR documents. There's also financial data about how much money the company earns from its deals with Marvel and Sony.Β
A Rhysida spokesperson tells Cyber Daily, "Yes, we knew who we were attacking. We knew that developers making games like this would be an easy target. We were able to get the domain administrator within 20β25 minutes of hacking the network."
Unsurprisingly, what the leak reveals about the futureΒ hasΒ gone viral on social media and Insomniac's upcomingΒ slate has subsequentlyΒ been revealed in advance. While we won't be posting or embedding any of the leaked material here, there are details about some of what it contains we can tell you about after they were shared on various websites.Β Β
For Spider-Man fans, the biggest news isΒ confirmation that a Venom game is coming in Q2 2025. It will reportedly be priced at $49.99 with an all-new storyline that picks up after Spider-Man 2Β andΒ leads directly into Spider-Man 3.Β
Players will be able to switch between Venom and the two Spider-Men as they deal with Carnage-infected New York City boroughs. Like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it will be a relatively short experience which takes between 8 - 10 hours to complete and featuresΒ 12 missions and 3 bosses.Β
As for Spider-Man 3, that's targeting a late 2028 launch and it may be a two-parter with one instalment called "Spider-Man: The Great Web." It appears those rumours about the web-slingers embarking on a Multiversal adventure were, in fact, correct.Β
A new Ratchet & Clank game is also being released in late 2029, while it seems Insomniac has ambitions to take its Marvel franchises to the online space as well (perhaps some sort of online co-op allowing gamers to play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales).Β
This leak is unfortunate for Insomniac, of course, but there's a huge amount of excitement among fans for these games and the bigger issue is obviously the sensitive data which could compromise plans for these titles - such as source code - and that employee information.Β
As always, stay tuned for more on Venom and Spider-Man 3 as we have it.
