Almost exactly a month ago, it was reported that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of
Overkill's The Walking Dead had been postponed from its original February 2019 date. While Starbreeze Studios didn't give us a new release date back then, the Swedish studio did confirm that further information regarding the future release would be announced at a later date, and it looks like that day has come.
Unfortunately, it's not the news fans have been waiting for, as the game's console versions have been all but officially canceled. As noted by True Achievements, Sony has started e-mailing all players who pre-ordered
OTWD on PlayStation 4 and has begun issuing refunds. According to Sony, Starbreeze has told them that the game has been cancelled, so the company should confirm that information soon.
Given that the PS4 and XO editions of the zombie game may have been canned, there's a rather big chance that Starbreeze will also abandon the game's PC version, that was released, as planned, last October. Following the rather underwhelming initial sales of
Overkill's TWD, Starbreeze has revealed that some major improvements would be coming to the multiplayer-only title with the inclusion of
Season 2, that is bringing new missions, weapons, and playable characters to the core experience.
OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead is a four player co-op action FPS, where you and your friends fight the dead as well as the living. Set in The Walking Dead Universe, you and your group tries to survive in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. Each character has their own Special Abilities, Skill Trees, Squad Roles, Play Styles and Story Arcs, but teamwork is paramount. The action is close-up and intense: take out enemies carefully with silent melee attack or go in guns blazing with your choice of each class firearms. You need to be able to improvise as nothing is certain and a horde of walkers is always right around the corner.
Overkill's The Walking Dead is available for PC NOW; the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions have been pushed back indefinitely.
