Development on the final two episodes of Telltale's
The Walking Dead: The Final Season is underway. Skybound Games, the gaming extension of Robert Kirkman's Skybound Entertainment, took over control of the video game franchise following the closure of Telltale Games in October. In a statement posted to the company blog, Skybound offered a brief update on the future of
The Walking Dead: The Final Season.
Thank you for your patience while we worked with Telltale to take control of TELLTALE’S THE WALKING DEAD. It’s been a ton of work logistically and legally to get us to a place where we’re able to roll up our sleeves and get to the actual work. After Telltale shut its doors, the game was, unfortunately, unable to be worked on and hence the release dates of Episodes 3 and 4 have been delayed. But, we’re excited to let you know that many of the talented, passionate team members who originally worked on the game are resuming development efforts today!
Unfortunately, we still don't have a release date for either episode, but Skybound says they'll be announcing that soon. In a recent Q&A, Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe estimated that Episode 3, "
Broken Toys," would be released before the end of the year. It was originally due out November 6, but obviously, that didn't happen.
Additionally, Skybound says that previous seasons of Telltale's
The Walking Dead should be made available for purchase once again as they transition through the acquisition. If you already purchased
The Final Season, you will not have to pay again and you should automatically receive the future episodes as they become available.
