WATCH DOGS 2 will Have a Deeper Narrative Unlike WATCH DOGS
Ubisoft's original Watch Dogs game was met with a lot of critical backlash. The game failed to deliver on any of the fronts that it had promised before it was launched. Now, Ubisoft has learned from their mistakes, and put important emphasis on the narrative and tone of the upcoming Watch Dogs 2. Click the jump to check out how.
It's rather well known that Ubisoft didn't accomplish what they had hoped when they released Watch Dogs, a game that they hyped up as something that would revolutionize game mechanics from here on out. It ended up doing next to nothing to revolutionize anything. Thankfully, Ubisoft has realized that trying to accomplish such massive goals wasn't really the smartest thing to do (if only Hello Games would've listened), so they've decided to focus on narrative and tone with their upcoming Watch Dogs 2, a game that so far has received nothing but praise.
“The development team listened to players and have worked very hard to implement changes based on that feedback into the next instalment," said marketing director Mark Slaughter. "There will be a more relevant narrative with deeper characterisation; a fresh, lighter tone, more creative hacking options, better driving and a seamless online experience. Add to this more choice on how to approach challenges and a great sense of dynamism and variety in the game world and the team have worked very hard to produce a strong offering that the players will love.”
Rob Cooper also had something encouraging to say about just how much the studio listened to the feedback from fans. “There’s been a huge amount of feedback from Watch Dogs; the studios have listened and have added everything possible to the new game to ensure that the experience is a significantly better one. The previews so far have shown this is the case.”
Slaughter then went to hit the nail on the head about what sets this game so far apart from it's predecessor: it's actually well liked among fans. “The sentiment from previews so far has been overwhelmingly positive with many claiming that the game delivers an intelligent, funny and brilliant open world game that could easily be up there as a Game of the Year contender. With all our launch activity we’re seeing there’s a lot of strong buzz coming to the game quite late in the campaign so we’ve got high expectations.”
Players will explore the birthplace of the tech revolution as Marcus Holloway, a brilliant young hacker who has fallen victim to ctOS 2.0’s predictive algorithms and is accused of a crime he did not commit. In Marcus’ quest to shut down ctOS 2.0 for good, hacking is the ultimate weapon, and players can not only hack into the city’s infrastructure but also every person and any connected device they possess to trigger unpredictable chains of events. With the ability to take control of drones, cars, cranes, security robots, and much more at their disposal, players can choose whether to use stealth hacking to complete missions without killing a single enemy or go guns blazing for a more ferocious approach. In this vast open world, players can hack their way through traffic while engaging in dangerous car chases through the winding streets of San Francisco, traverse the rooftops of the vibrant neighborhoods of Oakland, and infiltrate the offices of cutting-edge companies in Silicon Valley.
