A Guatemalan retailer seemingly leaked that Ubisoft was planning to remake a Prince of Persia game, but Ubisoft declined to comment on this information. As it turns out, rumours were true, as the developer has just announced that a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is currently in the works.
The announcement was made today during the special Ubisoft Forward presentation, in which it was revealed that the remake of the all-time classic will be releasing for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC(Windows) on Thursday the 21st of January, so players will still have to wait a little bit longer to play it.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was originally released in October of 2003, and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands — the most recently released entry in the series — launched in 2010, so it actually has been quite a while since fans of the series have had the chance to play a new game; even if the upcoming one is a remake.
Ubisoft released an action-packed trailer for the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, giving players a better idea of what to expect from the upcoming title. A quick look at the comment section and the like/dislike ratio, however, reveals that fans are not happy with the announcement, and it isn't difficult to see why; the game looks rather bland for a current-gen title.
Whatever the case, it will be interesting to see if Ubisoft takes some notes and polishes some details along the way. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still a few months away from release, so there may still be time to work on it, and deliver the game fans had been longing for since Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands was released.
