Rumours about a sequel to Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts' critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order have been doing the rounds quite a lot lately, but neither the developer nor the publisher has been able to confirm these rumours.

If you've played Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, you may be well aware that the ending does leave the door open for an upcoming sequel, so it wouldn't be too crazy to think, and/or expect that the developers announcing a sequel to the game is almost a given.

Just recently, in fact, Electronic Arts revealed that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order had managed to sell over an impressive 10 million copies as of the 31st of March; considering that the game launched mid-November, it is actually quite the feat.

Today players may have finally been given the confirmation that they've been waiting for so long, as Electronic Arts Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson recently revealed that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the "first title in an entirely new franchise"; information that was revealed during an earnigs call.

While Wilson's comment may be rather vague, it does actually make it official, and players should expect a slightly more official announcement about a direct sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order any time now. Rumours said that the game could be slated for a 2021 release, so the developer/publisher still have  some time to make a proper announcement.

Again, this was actually expected news, but it is nice to finally have some kind of official information about this. In the meantime, those who already own a copy of the game can enjoy Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order again thanks to the free update that added the clamoured New Journey +.

Cal Kestis—one of the last surviving members of the Jedi Order after the purge of Order 66—is now a Padawan on the run. Experience this all-new single-player Star Wars story from Respawn Entertainment and EA Star Wars on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC this holiday season.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
